About Community Discussions
The Discussions area of the portal allows residents to converse and share information about important topics for the community. You can participate in existing discussions or create new topics.
Note: Based on your community's customization, some portal features may not be available. You may not be able to add new forums, but you can typically add new topics and comment on existing discussions.
Adding a New Topic to a Forum
Login and Navigate
Login to your Community Portal and click the "Discussions" button on the left-hand column.
Note: Depending on the forum's status and your permissions, you may not have access to all forums.
Select a Forum
Click on the forum where you want to post your topic. Forums might include categories like "Community Events," "Maintenance," "Suggestions," etc.
Click Add New
Click the "Add New" button to create a new discussion topic.
Complete the New Topic Form
Enter a clear, descriptive title for your topic
Enter your full message in the text editor
- Hide Content - Hide the topic from view
- Show at Top - Keep topic pinned at the top
- Lock Topic - Prevent further discussion
- • Open: Visible to all participants (default)
- • Archived: Viewable but no further discussion
- • Closed: Only viewable to administrators
Attach photos or documents related to the topic
Save Your Topic
Click the "Save" button to finalize and publish your discussion topic.
Discussion Guidelines
Be respectful: Treat all community members with courtesy
Stay on topic: Keep discussions relevant to the forum category
No personal attacks: Focus on ideas, not individuals
Be constructive: Offer solutions along with concerns
Protect privacy: Don't share personal information of others
Understanding Forum Access
Forums can have different access levels:
Public Forums
Available to all community members
Group Forums
Limited to specific groups (e.g., board members, committee members)
Archived Forums
Read-only forums for past events or closed topics
